    Angry Dreaded HGF

Looks like my sons car has suffered with this. Unsure - but I'm 99% positive.

Overheated - lost all water - cream watery deposit on dipstick.

Annoying and I wish I had steered him away from an older TF.

    Cost to replace the gasket?

Get it fixed, get shut, then get a 'B' roadster. Some nice ones for sale around £3k.

Ouch ! Depends upon how well you ant the job doing. Backstreet grease monkey will probably be £3-400 but no guarantee that it will be done properly.

I don't think you need me to say where the best place is. Matt knows how to sort a TF, he's just done mine

What did he charge you John?

Reason I ask is that I'll have to help out with £££££'s.

I had some other work done at the same time (inc new discs and pads all round) so came to over a grand (including collection and delivery).

Ruddy hell - been quoted £600 for HGF + belts.

That sounds about right for head gasket and belts.

Does this require full head reconstruction or just replacement of gasket

    For £600 + VAT.

Change head gasket for upgraded type.
    + Cambelt
    + Waterpump / drive

Now the good news - it's fixed.

    New water pump.
    New cam belt.
    New radiator.
    New head gasket.

    Note to oneself - don't buy a used MGF/TF.

Well, my TF has done nearly 2000 miles since it had the head gasket done and its been 100% reliable and a pleasure to drive since.

The only thing I need to sort now is getting a windstop fitted. It does get a bit breezy around the back of the neck at 70 with the roof down.
